This latest report somehow brings even more focus to what is a truly frightening global problem – OBESITY. The report is not talking about overweight people; it is talking about those adults with a BMI of 30 or more – OBESE people. And the figures are overwhelming. Tackling obesity will be a battle on many fronts – the amount of food we eat; the sort of food we eat; the lives we lead; the energy we use up in sports or don’t use up in front of the computer or TV; the promotion of image; and so much more. The problem is certainly not just a problem of affluent North America; it is an epidemic which has spread around the globe, so much so that it is now a bigger health concern than is undernourishment and issues associated with being underweight.
